The Airline Oxygen Council of America (AOCA) is a coalition of individuals and organizations whose objective is to serve as a vehicle for consumer organizations to discuss and strategize on next steps in solving the barriers for individuals who require supplemental oxygen during air travel. The Airline Oxygen Council of America advocates for full enactment of the 1986 Air Carrier Access Act allowing air travel with supplemental oxygen to be accessible and fair. When the 1986 Air Carrier Access Act was enacted, it was intended, in part, to provide protection against discriminatory practices for individuals with disabilities who fly. AOCA considers the expertise and participation of individuals and organizations to be vital to the success of this initiative.
The AOCA has established the following goals:
- Make travel with supplemental oxygen an individual’s right - with enforceability;
- Allow oxygen needs to be successfully met during air travel as well as in all phases of life;
- Establish a strategy to promote access to current and new technology to be allowed as carry-on, and;
- Have oxygen accessible, consistently delivered, and implemented under the same guidelines by all air carriers.
